The who, what, and why of the Laurie Pilia Photography Blog…

Welcome to my first blog post! Ahh I am so excited to be writing this right now, and even more excited knowing that YOU are finally reading it! I am Laurie Pilia, owner of Laurie Pilia Photography and author of Kisses from Sardinia. I have been wanting to start this blog for a while. It’s something I am so passionate about and have wanted to do for a long time, but more on that later. For my first blog post I wanted to let you know more about me and what you can expect to see here!

Let me introduce myself… a little about me

Hi, I’m Laurie! A photographer, author, and dreamer who resides in Central Florida with my beautiful girls and beloved Sardinian, Carlo. 

When I traveled abroad in 2008 —to Ireland—for the first time, I was in my late twenties and hadn’t seen much of the world outside of the state of Ohio. Thank goodness I took along my camera. It was the first of two life-long romances that began on that trip. I found that I had a knack for capturing images with innovative depth and perception, and soon I was recording life through my camera with a passion and fervor that swept me away.

When I met my future husband on that same trip, the ensuing cross-continent romance only energized my need to record precious moments in time. Soon I found myself living in Ireland and experiencing a life unlike any I had ever imagined. 

In June 2010, I married my Sardinian sweetheart, Carlo, in Barbados. We have two beautiful daughters and one furry family member named Luna – a Bichon Frise. Our family is everything to us! Raising our girls and documenting their lives has inspired me to pursue my passion. I became compelled to share my gift with others and assist them in recording the timeless imagery of their own lives. 

In August of 2022, I submitted my resignation and left my Manager of Organizational Effectiveness position at a large healthcare organization to pursue photography full-time. It has been a dream come true. 

While I love documenting the lives of others, my family is still my top priority. My family and I create “frame-worthy” moments every day. My husband Carlo and my daughters remain my favorite subjects to photograph, but I channel the same positive energy and devotion when I record the lives and milestones of others.

When I’m not taking beautiful photographs, you can find me traveling to faraway places or relaxing at the beach. Inspiration, creativity and connection drive me. I strive to live my best life while helping others do the same. 

What this blog is all about…

For my first blog post I want to give you an idea of what you will expect to see here! This space will be a little bit of everything – topics from motherhood, fun adventures, photography, wellness, travel, and just daily thoughts and life updates. 

My goal for this site is for all of my readers to find daily motivation, useful advice, and relatable and helpful content as a mama. I like to write my content like I’m talking with a best friend- always keeping it real and to the point.

Why blogging?

The original Laurie Pilia Photography Blog started back in 2018 (anyone remember my OG site!?) That first space was a fun creative outlet for me to start, but I didn’t do much with it and definitely didn’t really know what I was doing. I did it asI thought photographers are supposed to have a blog. 

However, since leaving my job in August of 2022, it has been on my mind as something I wanted to do. Not because I am supposed to, but because I feel compelled to. There are so many reasons in my life that point to blogging. Journaling has always been a cathartic outlet for me and after publishing my memoir, Kisses from Sardinia, I realized how special it is to share with others and connect through words. 

When I think about blogging and sharing with others it excites me. I am excited to make new friends, provide useful and fun information to others and share my life and passions. I love being behind the camera as well as writing. I have shared so much of my life through my memoir and photography, and now with this site, I have a place to combine it all.
